A total of 1,521 candidates have been recommended to different cadre and non-cadre posts under the 47th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination.
"Out of the total 1,521 candidates in the 47th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations, 1,320 candidates have been recommended for cadre posts and 201 for non-cadre positions," according to a PSC press release issued today (28 June).
It said that the PSC provisionally recommended the government for appointing the officers.
The statement, however, said that the PSC recommended 201 candidates for appointment in the government job (non-cadre) under 9th, 10th and 12th grade.
However, the recommendations fall far short of the vacancies announced in the original recruitment circular.
The 47th BCS offered a total of 3,864 positions, including 3,663 cadre posts and 201 non-cadre posts.
This means that 2,343 cadre posts have remained vacant.
Despite the circular specifying 100 vacancies for the BCS (Police) cadre, the PSC recommended 150 candidates for the post.
In contrast, the Education Cadre saw recommendations well below the advertised vacancies across several subjects.
According to the results, only eight candidates were recommended for 132 vacant lecturer posts in Bangla. In English, 30 candidates were recommended against 77 vacancies, while Political Science saw nine recommendations against 90 posts.
The PSC also recommended only two candidates for 48 Philosophy posts, 18 for 63 Economics posts, nine for 25 Social Welfare posts, 18 for 45 Chemistry posts, three for 42 Accounting posts, one for 10 Marketing posts and two for 50 Information and Communication Technology posts.
The results prompted criticism on social media, with many questioning why so many positions remained unfilled despite high unemployment.
One student from the University of Dhaka wrote on social media: "The PSC has trapped the unemployed. In the 47th BCS, 2,343 posts remained vacant. There were 90 posts in Political Science, but only nine candidates were recommended. Isn't the PSC making a mockery of unemployed graduates by wasting so many vacancies?"
Responding to the criticism, the PSC said it had been unable to recommend candidates for 2,343 cadre posts because it did not find a sufficient number of qualified applicants for several technical and professional cadres.
The PSC had published the 47th BCS recruitment circular on 28 November 2024.
The preliminary examination was held on 19 September 2025, while the written examinations took place simultaneously in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymensingh between 27 November and 18 December that year.
On 7 April this year, the PSC published the written examination results, in which 3,631 candidates were declared provisionally successful.
