In a move to meet the long-standing demand of passengers, Bangladesh Railway will launch a new intercity commuter train, 'Abhijatri Commuter,' on the Dhaka-Gopalganj-Dhaka route from 10  August.

Railway authorities expressed hope that the launch of the 'Abhijatri Commuter' will significantly improve rail connectivity between the capital and Gopalganj, Faridpur and other areas along the route, making travel easier and more efficient for commuters.

The information was disclosed in an official order issued yesterday (7 July) by the Office of the Chief Operating Superintendent (West), Rajshahi, of Bangladesh Railway.

According to the railway authorities, the inaugural journey will begin on 10 August, when train No.136 departs from Dhaka for Gopalganj. The train will leave Dhaka at 2:30pm and arrive in Gopalganj at 6:45pm. On the return trip, train No. 135 will depart Gopalganj at 7:25pm and reach Dhaka at 10:25pm.

The Dhaka-bound service will stop at Maheshpur, Kashiani Junction and other designated stations, while the Dhaka-to-Gopalganj service will halt at Keraniganj, Srinagar, Mawa, Shikarpur, Bhanga Junction and Nagarkanda stations.

According to Bangladesh Railway, the total distance of the Dhaka-Gopalganj route is 188 kilometres. The train will not operate on Saturdays, its designated weekly holiday.
