The government has appointed Ahsan Habib as acting chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and acting secretary of the Internal Resources Division replacing Md Abdur Rahman Khan.
A notification confirming the appointment was issued today (29 June).
Prior to the appointment, Ahsan was serving as an NBR member and director general of the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC), the tax intelligence wing responsible for probing tax evasion and financial irregularities.
A member of the 15th BCS (Taxation) cadre, Ahsan graduated from the Department of Geology at the University of Dhaka, securing first class first position.
He also stood first in his BCS batch.
During his career, he served as commissioner of Tax Zone-15 before taking charge of the Central Intelligence Cell, where he oversaw several high-profile investigations into tax evasion and financial misconduct.
He also played an important role in the government's move to recover outstanding taxes from the online gambling platform UlkaGames.
