The Bandarban district administration has extended the closure of all tourist attractions by another three days, keeping them shut until 15 July, as persistent heavy rainfall continues to pose safety risks.
The decision was announced in a public notice issued today (10 July), signed by Deputy Commissioner Md Saniul Ferdous.
According to the notice, continuous heavy rainfall in the hill district has created risks to road connectivity and public safety in several areas. Considering the prevailing weather conditions and potential hazards, the administration has extended the closure of all tourist destinations until 15 July.
During this period, all tourist spots, waterfalls, hill trails, waterways, remote areas and other high-risk locations will remain off-limits to tourists, tour operators and the general public.
The administration had initially announced a five-day closure of all tourist attractions from 6 to 10 July. On 8 July, the travel restriction was extended by two more days due to worsening weather conditions.
Following a fresh assessment of the situation today, the administration extended the restrictions for a third time.
Meanwhile, weather conditions showed signs of improvement today, with no heavy rainfall reported until the afternoon. The weather remained largely dry throughout the day, and floodwaters began receding gradually in different parts of the district.
However, residents living along the banks of the Sangu River in Bandarban town remained in emergency shelters.
Road communication also remained disrupted, with landslides and waterlogging forcing the suspension of direct transport services from the district headquarters to several upazilas. Long-distance bus services were also suspended, although some passengers were seen travelling in stages on motorcycles and jeeps for emergency purposes.
