Barcelona today (8 July) registered a maximum temperature of 40.5C, its highest figure in 112 years of records, a regional weather agency said as another heatwave struck Spain.

The provisional reading at the Fabra Observatory on Barcelona's western outskirts broke the previous record of 40C set on 30 July 2024, Meteocat said on X.
