Brazil endured a nervy start against Norway in their Fifa World Cup Round of 32 clash as the Scandinavian side had an early goal ruled out for offside before goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland denied Bruno Guimarães from the penalty spot.

Norway made the brighter start, controlling around 70% of possession during the opening 15 minutes and pinning Carlo Ancelotti's side deep inside their own half.

Their early dominance appeared to be rewarded when Sander Berg fired a clinical finish into the top-right corner after being set up by Alexander Sørloth. However, VAR confirmed Sørloth had strayed offside before delivering the cross, allowing Brazil to escape with the score still goalless.

Brazil's first real chance came moments later when Matheus Cunha was brought down inside the penalty area by Kristoffer Ajer. Although referee initially waved play on, a VAR review awarded Brazil a penalty.

Bruno Guimarães stepped up but failed to convert. After a stuttering run-up, his low effort was comfortably pushed away by Nyland, who dived to his left to preserve the deadlock.

Despite the penalty escape, Norway quickly resumed control of possession and continued to dictate the tempo, while Brazil struggled to establish any rhythm in the early exchanges.

The match also carried historical significance, with Brazil entering the contest still searching for their first-ever victory over Norway. In four previous meetings, Norway had won twice while the other two encounters ended in draws. Their last meeting came in 2006, when the teams played out a 1-1 draw.
