The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has proposed a Tk2,260.24 crore budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, with the largest allocation for development projects.

The proposed budget was announced today (30 June) by CCC Mayor Shahadat Hossain at the Theatre Institute in Chattogram.

The city corporation also presented a revised budget of Tk1,665.92 crore for FY2025-26, down from the original allocation of Tk2,145.42 crore for the current fiscal year.

According to the proposed budget, CCC aims to generate Tk1,197.62 crore in revenue from its own sources, while Tk1,023.20 crore is expected from government grants and other sources. Together with an opening balance of Tk39.42 crore, the total proposed budget stands at Tk2,260.24 crore.

The highest priority has been given to domestic revenue collection in the proposed budget. This includes a target of Tk426 crore from current taxes and rates, Tk197 crore from outstanding arrears, Tk188.90 crore from other taxes, Tk140.20 crore from various fees, and Tk103.90 crore from property rents and other income. Furthermore, Tk48.75 crore has been allocated for the subsidy sector.

On the expenditure side, development received the highest allocation at Tk825 crore. Salaries, allowances and remuneration for officers and employees have been allocated Tk480.85 crore.

Speaking at the event, the CCC Mayor noted that the corporation's approved manpower stands at 4,226, which is vastly inadequate to serve a megacity of 7 to 8 million people.

As a result, operations are being run through temporary appointments, bringing the current workforce to over 9,000.

He said the city corporation has begun regularising long-serving temporary employees and recently recruited 120 workers through what he described as a transparent, merit-based process. He added that the same standards would be maintained in future recruitment.

He also said the distribution of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) family cards and relief assistance for low-income communities would continue.

He said regular eviction drives were being conducted to free roads, drains and footpaths from illegal occupation, alongside awareness campaigns on food safety, dengue prevention and mosquito control.

Highlighting environmental protection, Shahadat Hossain stressed sustainable waste management, called for an end to hill cutting and deforestation, and urged residents to join tree plantation programmes. He reaffirmed his commitment to building a cleaner, greener and pollution-free Chattogram with public support.
