Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has suspended parking fee collection at the newly built car parking area under Babubazar Bridge in Ward 32 until further notice.
The suspension covers 28,051.12 square feet of open space divided into four blocks, A to D.
The decision followed a report published in Jugantar yesterday (25 August) under the headline "Public extortion using City Corporation tokens in Babubazar," which, according to an office order, tarnished the city corporation's image.
The office order said no parking fee can be collected at the site in violation of the suspension.
It warned that legal action would be taken if anyone collects parking fees there despite the order.
Wishing to remain anonymous, a senior officer of the DMP's traffic department said the parking area will play a vital role in easing traffic congestion there.
