Turkey has expressed interest in expanding its investment and cooperation in Bangladesh's energy sector, particularly in the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG), during a meeting between Turkish Ambassador Ramis Şen and Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood.

The meeting was held at the minister's office at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka today (8 July).

Ambassador Şen, accompanied by Bilal Belyurt, commercial counsellor at the Embassy of Türkiye, and Harun Ortaç, chief executive officer of United Aygaz LPG Ltd, congratulated the minister on assuming office and conveyed the Turkish government's continued goodwill towards Bangladesh.

During the meeting, the ambassador outlined the current state of Bangladesh-Türkiye relations and shared Turkish plans to expand investment and trade, with a particular focus on the energy sector.

Welcoming continued Turkish investment, Iqbal Hassan Mahmood reaffirmed the government's commitment to increasing foreign participation in Bangladesh's energy sector, especially in LNG supply.

He also underscored the importance of strengthening government-to-government (G2G) cooperation to help reduce the trade imbalance between the two countries, which share longstanding cultural and religious ties.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the growing economic and energy partnership and discussed ways to further deepen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

Ambassador Şen also invited the minister to visit Turkey to advance bilateral relations and energy cooperation. The minister welcomed the invitation and expressed his interest in visiting the country at the earliest opportunity.
