BNP Secretary General and Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir fell ill on Thursday while attending the inauguration ceremony of the Rath Jatra at ISKCON Swamibagh Ashram in the capital.
He started feeling unwell at the end of his speech at the programme, said BNP Media Cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan, reports UNB.
At one stage of his address, Fakhrul said, "I am sorry, I cannot finish my speech because I am feeling unwell. At the end, I would just like to say, 'let us all move Bangladesh forward together'."
The BNP secretary general was immediately taken home, Sayrul said, adding that he is currently taking rest at home on the advice of physicians.
He urged everyone to pray for Fakhrul's speedy recovery.
