France wore their Statue of Liberty-inspired away kit for the first time during Friday's (26 June) Fifa World Cup group-stage match against Norway in New Jersey.

The mint green shirt draws inspiration from the Statue of Liberty, with its colour reflecting the monument's weathered appearance after nearly 140 years of natural oxidation. Copper accents reference the statue's original colour before it developed its iconic green patina.

The design also highlights the historical relationship between France and the United States. France gifted the Statue of Liberty to the US in 1886 to mark the centennial of American independence and as a symbol of friendship between the two countries.

Designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the Statue of Liberty remains one of the world's best-known landmarks and is widely recognised as a symbol of freedom and democracy.

With the World Cup taking place across North America, France's first appearance in the new away kit came on American soil, where the design reflects the shared history between the two nations.
