French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet today (5 July) reaffirmed France's commitment to strengthening its partnership with Bangladesh, expressing interest in expanding French support and exploring new financing instruments through the French Treasury.

The ambassador paid a courtesy call on Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at his secretariat office and discussed issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, the ambassador congratulated the Finance Minister on the successful passage of the first national budget of the new government.

He expressed confidence that the ambitious budget would help restore economic momentum and support Bangladesh's continued growth and development.

Their discussions covered issues related to Bangladesh's graduation from the LDC category, the government's new priorities in infrastructure development as well as human capital investment, France's longstanding support for Bangladesh, and opportunities for further bilateral cooperation.

In particular, they discussed the role of the French Development Agency (AFD) in Bangladesh's socio-economic development, said the French Embassy in Dhaka.

AFD's ongoing programmes focus on water supply, sanitation, and energy, where the agency remains one of Bangladesh's leading bilateral development partners.
