Former Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Kazi Md Salahuddin has been re-elected as the president of the South Asian Football Federation (Saff), extending his leadership of the regional football body after securing the post unopposed.
His re-election was formally confirmed today (1 August) at the Saff Congress in Bhutan's Thimphu, after he emerged as the sole candidate for the presidency.
In a message posted on its official Facebook page, Saff congratulated Salahuddin, saying his re-election reflects his "dedication, vision, and unwavering commitment to the development of football in South Asia."
The regional football body also expressed confidence that his new term would bring greater progress, unity, and success to football across South Asia.
Salahuddin's path to another term was cleared after Saff amended its constitution, abolishing the upper age limit of 70 and removing the two-term limit for the presidency.
Although the current BFF executive committee was not in favour of backing his candidacy amid Bangladesh's changed political landscape, Salahuddin secured his nomination through the Nepal and Bhutan football federations instead of seeking BFF endorsement, according to media reports.
With no rival candidate in the race, his re-election had effectively been assured before today's formal confirmation.
