Three people, including a mother and her daughter, were killed and two others seriously injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-run autorickshaw and a pickup van in Fulgazi upazila of Feni tonight (27 June).

The accident occurred in front of the Palli Bidyut office adjacent to the Fulgazi Upazila Parishad on the Feni-Bilonia regional highway, confirmed Fulgazi Police Station Officer-in-Charge SM Mizanur Rahman.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Kawsar, 32, son of Abul Kalam of North Daulatpur village under Fulgazi Sadar union; Wahida Akter, 20, wife of Italy expatriate Kazi Hayat of West Pathannagar in Chhagalnaiya upazila; and her mother Zakia Akter, 40, wife of Sohel Majumder of Fulgazi upazila.

According to police, witnesses and family members, the autorickshaw was travelling from Feni to Fulgazi when it collided head-on with an oncoming pickup van near the Palli Bidyut office.

The impact left the autorickshaw mangled and seriously injured all five occupants, including the driver.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Fulgazi Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Kawsar and Wahida dead.

The remaining three injured were referred to the 250-bed Feni General Hospital in critical condition. Zakia Akter died on the way to the hospital, while the other two continue to receive treatment.

Fulgazi Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Golam Kibria said Kawsar and Wahida had died before reaching the upazila health complex.

"As the condition of the remaining three was critical, they were referred to Feni General Hospital. Zakia Akter died while being taken there," he said.

Mizanur Rahman, Zakia's brother-in-law, said she had visited neighbouring Daulatpur village with her daughter earlier in the day to see her ailing sister-in-law.

"They were returning home in the evening when the accident occurred. The sudden deaths of both mother and daughter have left the family devastated," he said.

OC Mizanur Rahman said the bodies had been sent to the morgue of Feni General Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Police have seized the two vehicles involved in the accident, and legal proceedings are underway, he added.
