Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana has been rewarded for his record-breaking performance against Zimbabwe, climbing 17 places to a career-best 12th in the latest ICC men's ODI bowling rankings released today (8 July).
Nahid produced the best bowling figures by a Bangladeshi in ODI history, returning 6-21 in the first ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare. His spell surpassed the previous national record of 6-26, jointly held by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Rubel Hossain.
Despite Bangladesh's 25-run defeat while chasing a modest target of 142, Nahid's outstanding display earned him the biggest rise among Bangladeshi bowlers in the updated rankings.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the highest-ranked Bangladesh bowler, slipped one place to ninth. Shoriful Islam dropped three places to 21st, Mustafizur Rahman fell four spots to 27th and leg-spinner Rishad Hossain slipped eight places to 73rd. Taskin Ahmed, who claimed two wickets in the opening ODI, retained his 29th position.
Bangladesh's batting struggles were also reflected in the latest rankings, with no batter making progress during the weekly update.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim dropped one place to 38th, Litton Das slipped to 61st, Soumya Sarkar fell five places to 70th and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz dropped four places to 72nd. Towhid Hridoy and Najmul Hossain Shanto remained unchanged at 20th and 30th respectively.
In the ODI all-rounders' rankings, Bangladesh saw little movement, although Nahid advanced 31 places to 66th following his all-round ranking update.
