The snake was rescued this morning (29 June) from a shop at Nildumur Ghat with the help of local residents, the Forest Department said.
Hardware shop owner Harun said he discovered the large python inside the shop when he opened it in the morning. He then informed the Forest Department, whose staff, along with members of the Community Patrol Group (CPG), rescued the snake.
Harun said he had never seen such a large python in the busy locality before and could not understand how it entered the shop.
Satkhira Range Forester Irfan Uddin said the rescued python was found to be healthy. It was taken to the Kalagachhia forest outpost for observation before being released into the Kalagachhia area of the Sundarbans.
He said the shop is located beside the Kholpetua River, and it is believed the python drifted in from the Sundarbans with the tide before taking shelter inside the shop.
