Police have arrested two men in Narayanganj's Siddhirganj on allegations of producing and selling altered versions of the national flag featuring the Kalima written in Arabic script.
The suspects were detained on Thursday night (2 July) and sent to court yesterday (3 July) after being shown arrested, police said.
The arrestees are Md Niyamok Ullah, 25, son of Maulana Ershad Ali of Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria, and Siddique, 26, son of Chan Miah of Sherpur Sadar.
Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Emdadul Haque confirmed the arrests.
He said the suspects had allegedly been selling altered versions of the national flag through an online page.
According to police, the two allegedly produced flags bearing the Kalima alongside the national flag in the Mitali Market area and sold them through online platforms.
Police said the flags had recently been seen displayed in various areas of Siddhirganj, prompting an investigation.
The OC said they were arrested to investigate whether there was any other motive behind their activities.
