Veteran journalist and journalism educator Shahed Kamal passed away today (4 July) while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka. He was 85.
Mohammad Sabbir Hossain, senior staff nurse at Zainul Haque Sikder Women's Medical College and Hospital confirmed the veteran's demise to The Business Standard.
Shahed Kamal was the son of renowned poet Sufia Kamal.
He had been involved in journalism since 1957 and was widely recognised for his contributions to both the profession and journalism education in Bangladesh.
He joined the University of Dhaka's Department of Mass Communication and Journalism as a part-time teacher in 1976 and continued teaching there for nearly five decades.
