At least 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur over an anti-drug rally today (28 June).
The violence began this morning after tensions escalated following the anti-drug rally held in Hamirdi union.
Bhanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman said the clash stemmed from a dispute over local dominance.
"Additional police have been deployed in the area, and law enforcement agencies are working to bring the situation under control and restore normalcy," the OC said.
According to the eyewitnesses, supporters of Siru Molla, Kalam Kazi and Miraj Matubbar attacked the house of local police member Delwar Hossain following an anti-drug rally organised by Hamirdi Union Parishad Chairman Md Khokon Mia and local BNP leaders.
Residents from 11 villages in Hamirdi and people from the Brahmankandi area of neighbouring Manikdi union became involved in the violence.
Among those injured, Akter Matubbar, Riyad Matubbar and Mamun Matubbar were admitted to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex with serious injuries.
