The Bangladesh Navy has stepped in to support flood-hit residents in Chattogram by distributing emergency food aid to families stranded by severe waterlogging caused by heavy rainfall, upstream hill runoff and unusually high tides.
Thousands of people have been stranded in inundated neighbourhoods across the port city as continuous downpours, flash floods and tidal surges have caused widespread waterlogging, leaving many families facing severe hardship, reads a press release.
A Navy team visited several affected areas under Patenga Police Station, including Bijoy Nagar, Akmal Ali Road, New Mooring Madrasa, Narikel Tala and the Navy Hospital Gate area today (11 July), to assess the overall situation.
During the visit, naval personnel distributed around 2,000 packets of cooked food among families stranded by floodwaters.
The Navy said it will continue providing humanitarian assistance to affected communities as part of its relief operations and will maintain the initiative until normal conditions are restored in the flood-hit areas.
