The paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed in 11 flood-affected districts to conduct rescue operations, provide shelter, distribute relief materials, offer emergency medical assistance and help restore damaged communication networks.
A BGB press release issued today (12 July) said its personnel are working in Bandarban, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Chattogram, Feni, Sylhet, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Netrokona and Jamalpur districts, which have been affected by heavy rainfall, hill runoff, floods and landslides.
The release said BGB is carrying out round-the-clock monitoring of the flood situation through 90 observation points in the affected districts while ensuring immediate rescue and humanitarian assistance whenever required.
The release further said BGB has so far rescued more than 600 people from 122 families, including 116 tourists, from flood-hit areas of Bandarban and provided them with shelter, food assistance and emergency medical treatment.
A total of 48 people have received emergency healthcare services.
The border force also played an effective role in restoring traffic on the Bandarban-Rumaingchhari road by removing uprooted trees and debris.
In Naikhongchhari, BGB has taken emergency preventive measures to protect a steel bridge threatened by soil erosion and ensure safe public movement.
BGB said its rescue, relief, medical and other humanitarian assistance activities would continue until the situation returns to normal.
