Brazilian referees have shown more red cards than officials from any other country at the 2026 Fifa World Cup, with the tournament already producing 12 dismissals, more than the previous two editions combined.

The latest red card came during the United States' Round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, when forward Folarin Balogun was sent off for a dangerous tackle.

Brazilian referee Rafael Claus issued the straight red card.

Claus has now shown two red cards at the tournament, while fellow Brazilian referee Wilton Sampaio has also handed out two, taking Brazil's total to four.

Chilean referees have shown two red cards. Officials from Argentina, El Salvador, Slovenia, the United States, and Portugal have each issued one.

The 2026 World Cup has already surpassed the combined total from the 2018 tournament in Russia and the 2022 edition in Qatar, which produced four red cards each.

Despite the increase, the tournament remains well below the all-time record of 28 red cards set at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

The 1998 World Cup recorded 22 dismissals, while the 2002 and 2010 editions each saw 17.
