The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested former assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Fazlur Rahman, who is accused of abducting Sukh Ranjan Bali, a prosecution witness in a war crimes case against Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi.
DB chief Additional Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam told The Business Standard that Fazlur was arrested at his residence in Dhaka early today (3 July).
Further details will be disclosed later, he said.
Fazlur was arrested by the DB's Cyber Crime Unit, law enforcement sources said.
He was most recently serving with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Officials said further details of the arrest are expected to be confirmed by prosecutors at the International Crimes Tribunal, while the DB may hold a media briefing later in the day.
