State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid today (1 August) announced that an additional pair of trains will start operations on the Dhaka–Cox's Bazar route this month.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting Cox's Bazar Railway Station and Ramu Junction, the state minister said the government also plans to hand over the operation of Cox's Bazar station to a private company as part of efforts to bring the facility into full operation.
Habibur said the government aims to develop Cox's Bazar Railway Station into more than just a transport hub, describing it as a future international-standard, tourism-friendly rail gateway.
He added that the government is pursuing a nationwide strategy to expand rail connectivity.
"As part of that plan, dual-gauge railway lines linking Panchagarh to Cox's Bazar and Dhaka to Sylhet are expected to be implemented during the current administration," he added.
During the visit, the state minister toured various sections of the station and reviewed passenger services, infrastructure, cleanliness, security and ongoing operations.
He also held discussions with railway officials and instructed them to expedite the station's full commissioning while ensuring services meet international standards.
