Police today (1 July) recovered the body of a 60-year-old man who had been missing for nearly 50 days, buried beneath the earthen floor of a relative's kitchen in Munshiganj's Sirajdikhan upazila.

The deceased was identified as Awlad Hossain of Chainpara village in Jainsar union.

Sirajdikhan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Alauddin said four people had been detained in connection with the incident.

The detainees are Manik Bepari, 40, Bin Amin, 36, Ripon, 30, and Saiful Islam, 38.

The body was recovered during a police operation in the early hours today from the house of his brother-in-law, Khayer Bepari.

According to police, the body had been buried about 8 to 10 feet beneath the kitchen floor.

According to police and family members, Awlad Hossain had been missing since 9 May. His brother, Abdul Awal Sheikh, filed a case with Sirajdikhan Police Station on 23 May.

Family members searched for him in various places and circulated appeals on social media, but were unable to find any trace of him.

Police later launched an investigation and, acting on information obtained during the inquiry, conducted a raid at the house of Khayer Bepari, where they recovered the body.

OC Alauddin said police suspect the killing may have been linked to disputes involving money, gold jewellery and property, although the exact motive has yet to be established.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and further details will be released once inquiries have been completed.
