Morocco defeated the Netherlands 3-2 in a penalty shootout in their Round of 32 match after the teams finished level at 1-1 following extra time, advancing to the Round of 16 and eliminating the Dutch from the competition.

The two sides were closely matched throughout the contest, though Morocco was considered the stronger side on the night before holding its composure in the shootout.

The Netherlands took an early edge in the penalties as Teun Koopmeiners and Wout Weghorst converted their attempts. However, Quinten Timber missed his effort and Crysencio Summerville saw his shot saved by Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

Morocco stayed within reach through successful penalties from Soufiane Rahimi and Chemsdine Talbi before Ismael Saibari converted the decisive kick to seal the victory.

The result sends Morocco into the Round of 16, while the Netherlands exits the tournament.
