The government has appointed Md Reza Hasan, the current deputy commissioner (DC) of Cumilla, as the new deputy commissioner of Sylhet.
The appointment was announced through a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration today (28 June).
Meanwhile, Rosie Akhter, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, has been appointed as the new deputy commissioner of Cumilla, according to the notification.
Reza Hasan succeeds Sarwar Alam, who was withdrawn from the post on 21 June and attached to the Ministry of Public Administration.
Sarwar Alam's transfer came shortly after he initiated a series of measures aimed at improving transparency in the financial management of the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) in Sylhet.
As part of those efforts, he ordered three large donation cauldrons (degs) at the shrines to be sealed and took steps to introduce new donation boxes, moves that sparked widespread public discussion over shrine administration and financial oversight.
His subsequent removal drew criticism from various quarters, with many questioning whether it was linked to his transparency initiatives. However, the government has not officially stated any reason for his transfer.
