A Mymensingh court today (15 July) sentenced two people to death and 10 others to life imprisonment for killing a deed writer in 2013.
Judge of the Mymensingh Special Sessions Judge Court Farhana Ferdous handed down the judgment.
The condemned convicts are Md Farid, 48, son of Janab Ali, and Md Masud Mia, 41, son of Abdus Samad, both of the Narangi area in Bhaluka upazila. The court also fined them Tk 30,000 each.
Those sentenced to life imprisonment are Abdus Samad, 68, A Matin, 45, Mosharraf Hossain, 58, Mokhlesur Rahman, 53, Mofazzal Hossain, 58, Tofazzal Hossain, 48, Nazmul Mia, 43, Shahjahan Akond, 48, Atiqul Akond, 39, and Siddik Mia, 63.
Of them, Siddik Mia was tried in absentia.
The court also fined each of them Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.
According to the prosecution, Abu Zakaria Mintu, a deed writer, was stabbed to death in an attack by the convicts over a land dispute in Narangi of Bhaluka upazila on August 14, 2013.
Latifa Khatun, Mintu's wife, filed a case against 16 people with Bhaluka Model Police Station.
After examining the case records and hearing testimony from 18 witnesses, the Mymensingh Special Sessions Judge Court delivered the verdict.
