Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has formed a nine-member committee to oversee the implementation of the High Court's safety directives for MRT Line-6 following an accident last year that killed a pedestrian.

The committee will coordinate and monitor the implementation of recommendations made in a safety audit conducted after the accident, DMTCL said in a press release issued today (15 July).

The accident occurred on 26 October 2025, after a load-bearing pad, which helps reduce train vibrations, came loose from the metro rail structure and fell, killing a pedestrian.

Following the incident, the High Court ordered a safety audit on 4 December that year. A committee led by former Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) vice-chancellor Jahangir Alam conducted the audit.

The committee submitted a report titled "Identification of Operational Risks, Safety Audit and Structural Integrity of the Constructed Corridor of MRT Line-6."

According to DMTCL, the High Court directed it to implement 28 recommendations from the report, including eight short-term, 10 medium-term, and 10 long-term measures. The court also asked the company to adopt six strategic recommendations for ongoing and future MRT projects.

The newly formed committee will regularly submit progress reports to the secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division and provide updates to the High Court through DMTCL's legal counsel, according to the release.

DMTCL said implementing the court's directives and expert recommendations would further improve the safety and reliability of MRT Line-6.

It also said passenger safety remains its top priority and that the company will continue operating the metro rail service with the same commitment.
