The Bangladesh Coast Guard has detained 37 fishermen and seized two illegal artisanal trawling boats along with 14 trawling nets during an operation in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan confirmed the development today (12 July).
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Coast Guard contingent in Banshkhali conducted a raid today around 1am in the Sheikh-er-Khil Fish Landing Centre area under Banshkhali Police Station, he said.
"During the operation, the team seized two illegal artisanal trawling boats. A subsequent search of the vessels led to the recovery of 14 trawling nets, while 37 fishermen on board were taken into custody," he added.
He also said legal proceedings are underway against the detained fishermen.
