The Jahangirnagar University (JU) administration has issued show-cause notices to four residential students after a flag bearing the Kalima was displayed from the balcony of a dormitory room at Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall.

Confirming the matter today (2 July), Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall Provost Prof Mohammad Abdur Razzaq said a written explanation had been sought from the students following differing opinions among students over the incident.

He added that further action would be taken based on the findings and recommendations of the investigation committee.

According to the notice, a Kalima-inscribed flag was seen hanging from the balcony of Room 302 on the third floor of Block A of Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall on 27 June. The matter later spread on social media, triggering mixed reactions among students on campus.

The notice said that as residents of the room, the four students could not avoid responsibility for the incident.

However, the hall administration has also formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident.
