A major cleanup campaign to restore Gulshan Lake is set to begin tomorrow (3 July), with around 500 volunteers taking part in a day-long effort to remove waste from the waterbody and raise awareness about urban water conservation.
The initiative, titled "Cholo Khal Bachai: Gulshan Lake Cleanup Drive," is being organised by Footsteps Bangladesh with support from Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC Bangladesh.
It is being implemented in collaboration with the Dhaka North City Corporation, Gulshan Society and the National Volunteer Forum.
The campaign will run from 9am to 5pm, with the inauguration and main cleanup activities taking place at the premises of Hadi Tower near the Gulshan-2 Lake Bridge in Dhaka.
According to the organisers, the drive aims to improve the ecological health of Gulshan Lake by removing accumulated waste while encouraging greater public participation in protecting the city's waterways.
Several government officials, environmental experts and civic leaders are expected to attend the inauguration, including Dhaka North Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton, Department of Environment Additional Director General Md Ziaul Haque, Gulshan Society President Barrister Omar Sadat, Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC Chief Executive Officer Najith Meewanage, and Footsteps Bangladesh Co-Founder and President Shah Rafayat Chowdhury.
