Colombia coach Nestor Lorenzo has no reported injuries to contend with, but he is managing three players carrying yellow cards: midfielder Jefferson Lerma and defenders Jhon Lucumi and Johan Mojica.

“The yellow cards are a concern, and I think the Italian referee was heavy- handed with them,” Lorenzo said. “I don’t want to let those yellow cards affect my mindset for a match like this.”

Predicted starting XI:

(4-3-3): Vargas (goalkeeper); Munoz, Sanchez, Lucumi, Mojica; Puerta, Lerma, Arias; Rodriguez, Suarez, Diaz

Hello and welcome to Al Jazeera’s live coverage of Colombia vs Portugal in Group K of the 2026 World Cup.

Colombia, powered by Luis Diaz and Daniel Munoz, have already booked their ticket to the round of 32 as the current table-toppers, while Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal, who are second, are also assured of a knockout berth.

While Colombia won their first two games, Portugal dropped points against DR Congo in their opener, with Ronaldo coming in for criticism over his poor performance.

He answered the critics with two goals in a 5-0 rout over Uzbekistan in Portugal’s second game, as the 41-year-old ended his 10-game goal drought at major tournaments.

While Portugal boast one of the tournament’s most complete squads on paper, Colombia’s physicality, counter-attacking pace and defensive ‌organisation present a far sterner test than Uzbekistan.

A draw will suffice for Colombia to claim top spot, putting the onus on Portugal to seize control in Miami’s stifling conditions, where temperatures are expected to hit ‌30.5 degrees Celsius (87 ‌degrees Fahrenheit) at kickoff.
