The Sylhet Education Board has issued show-cause notices to four teachers over errors and inconsistencies in the HSC 2026 Physics (Theory) First Paper question paper used in the examination held yesterday (13 July).
The notices were issued today by the board's Controller of Examinations, Professor Bilkis Yasmin.
The teachers served with the notices are Professor Md Mujibur Rahman of the Physics Department at Sreemangal Government College, Assistant Professor Kazi Junaid Al Amin of the Physics Department at Brindaban Government College, Assistant Professor Mosaddeq Hossain Khan of the Physics Department at MC College, and Lecturer Mohammad Helal Uddin of the Physics Department at Sylhet Government Model School and College.
According to the notices, serious errors and inconsistencies were identified in questions 6 and 7 of the creative section of the Physics first paper. The board said the mistakes caused mental stress among examinees during the examination.
Describing the errors by the teachers responsible for preparing and reviewing the question paper as "extreme negligence and failure to perform professional duties," the notice stated that the incident had also damaged the reputation of the Sylhet Education Board.
The board asked the four teachers to explain why departmental action should not be taken against them for the mistakes in preparing and reviewing the question paper.
They have been instructed to submit written explanations within three working days of receiving the notices.
Earlier in the day, Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said all examinees would be awarded full marks for the two Physics questions that contained errors. He made the remarks during a question-and-answer session in parliament while discussing the ongoing HSC examinations and issues faced by students.
