A Novoair flight bound for Cox's Bazar made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this evening (3 July) after a technical fault, with Prime Minister's Adviser on Foreign Affairs and Civil Aviation Humayun Kabir among the passengers.
Flight BQ-935 departed Dhaka at around 6:50pm but encountered a technical problem within 10 to 15 minutes of takeoff.
Confirming the incident to The Business Standard, Novoair spokesperson Niladri Shuvo said the aircraft returned to Dhaka as a precaution.
"There was a technical problem, so the pilot decided to return to Dhaka airport," he said.
According to sources, the aircraft's landing gear failed to retract properly after takeoff. Despite repeated attempts by the captain, the landing gear could not be fully retracted.
The pilot then decided to return to Dhaka and kept the aircraft airborne for around 40 to 45 minutes before carrying out a safe emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Humayun Kabir was travelling on the flight to attend an event in Cox's Bazar. No injuries were reported and all passengers disembarked safely after the aircraft landed.
